10 Day Southern Namibia

Day 1
On arrival in Windhoek airport you proceed to the Avis car rental kiosk where you collect your car rental. A Group B, VW Polo or similar, Manual, Power steering, Radio/Tape, Air-conditioning. Drive to Swakopmund - a lively coastal town with a strong German influence and heritage where you stay at the Swakopmund Hotel for the next two nights.

Swakopmund Hotel
The charming coastal town of Swakopmund, surrounded by wide horizons and endless stretches of golden desert dunes, is home to the luxurious Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre. Built in and around the beautifully restored Old Station Building dating back to 1901, this premier hotel combines renowned Namibian hospitality with impeccable service, luxury accommodation and superb cuisine. Alternatively, enjoy a scenic flight over the desert or coast, a dolphin cruise, skydiving or a trip to one of the many places of historical interest.

Day 3
Today you drive to the Namib Naukluft Park and the Sossusvlei area where you stay at Sossusvlei Lodge for the next two nights.

Sossusvlei Lodge
Sossusvlei Lodge uniquely crouches almost unnoticed in a vast ocean of unparalleled desert beauty. Shaded by camel thorn trees, Sossusvlei Lodge is testatment to the ingenuity of an eco-friendly design. Abode walls are shaded by canvas roofs, almost berber-like in their shading of the cool slate floors within. As the sun steals its last rays strokes of purple from the far mountains, shake off the desert dust with ice cold local lager - on tap in the bushman painted bar. With passing parade of springbok, oryx and cape fox, it is surley one of the most unique sites … in all Africa A sparkling pool or a quiet drink under the shady crown of an ancient camel thorn tree makes for the best relaxation after an eventful day. Exploring the magical world of the oldest desert, the Namib Desert is our forte. The Sossusvlei area is famous for some of the highest dunes on earth, rich in contrast of colour and shape. Guided 4-wheel drive excursions take you deep into the wonders of the ancient region. The nearby Sesriem Canyon fascinates with its cool greenpools and bizarre conglomerate formations. Let the tremendous space and stillness and the exclusivity of Sossusvlei Lodge seep into your soul.

Day 5
Today you drive to the small town of Aus where you stay at Klein Aus Vista for the next two nights.

Klein Aus Vista
Klein-Aus Vista, the place with the view, is your perfect base from which to explore the magic south. Situated in the Aus Mountains, bordering the Namibia-Naukluft Park and Sperrgerbiet where the Feral Horses roam free, we offer a choice of accommodation at separate locations with various activities. Desert Horse Inn; spacious luxurious rooms, en-suite facilities, on-site restaurant, bar and sunset deck. Eagles Nest Chalets built around gigantic granite boulders, en-suite facilities each with own lounge and fireplace, private veranda and enless view over Namibia. Eagles Nest Bungalows; built around granite rocks with own attached facilities, central lounge and private veranda overlooking the desert. Geister Schlucht Rock Cabin; 2 dormitory bedrooms with lounge / kitchen, en-suite ablutions, located in picturesque valley. (All meals are served in Desert Horse Inn Restaurant). Guided excursions into the Namibia-Naukluft Park to view the Feral Horses, Koichab Dune belt and Bushman paintings also guided 4x4 trips across the Chobe dunes, 3 hiking trails (4-5 hours long) and sunset drives.

Day 7
Today you drive to the Fish River Canyon area and Canyon Lodge where you stay for the next two nights.

Canon Lodge
The Cañon Lodge stands proud amongst great granite boulders, its beauty a foretaste of the splendour of the nearby Fish River Canyon. The lodge is in the privately owned Gondwana Cañon Park and has 30 bungalows, each with natural rock walls, thatch roofs and en-suite facilities. The old farmhouse, originally built in 1910, has been restored to serve as a restaurant with an outside terrace that offers a panoramic view of the spectacular canyon landscape. The nearby clusters of quiver trees and the impressive surrounding rock formations provide many interesting hours for the enthusiastic hiker and nature lover. Join us for sundowner drives, walks, horse riding and magical scenic flights over the canyon.

Day 9
Today you drive north towards Mariental and Intu Africa Lodge where you stay overnight at Zebra Lodge.

Intu Africa Lodge
Welcome to the Kalahari Thirstland where you will experience magical sunsets, stunning landscape and possibly a close encounter with big African game. Enjoy an early morning desert walk with a Bushman tracker, and a late afternoon scenic drive and sundowner. Luxurious accommodation in Dune Lodge, Camelthorn and Zebra Lodge and Suricate Tented Camp. Coffee/tea and all meals are served at Zebra Lodge's dining room or at the poolside or outside in the open-air boma under the Kalahari sky (weather permitting). Accommodation is available on a B&B rate or fully inclusive rate which includes three meals, an early morning educational Bushman excursion and an afternoon safari drive in an open 4x4, both activities accompanied by an Intu Afrika game ranger.

Day 10
Today you drive back to Windhoek airport where you return your rental car before you check in for your flight.
