6 Night Garden Route Tour ( 4 Star )

Day 1
On arrival in Cape Town, you make your way to the Avis Desk, and collect your rented car. You start up the garden route by making your way via Swellendam, the third oldest town in South Africa and the spectacular Tradoux Pass to to the Klein Karoo town of Oudtshoorn. Here you check in at the Oulap Guest House for (1) night on a bed and breakfast basis.

Oulap
Built from local granite, Oulap lies in the towering Swartberg Mountains and overlooks a never ending Karoo Landscape stretching to distant horizons. It has old world en-suite guest bedrooms, billiard room, large lounge, reading room, cellar bar and swimming pool. Oulap is licensed and offers a full range of beers and spirits. From Oulap you can visit the Cango Caves and ostrich show farms, cycle, hike, swim or shop in Victorian Villages.

Day 2
This morning you may want to visit one of the local ostrich farms – very characteristic of the area or take a guided tour of the Cango Caves. From Oudtshoorn you drive over the Outeniqua Mountains to the coast line and continue to the Knysna – Plettenberg Bay area. Here you check into the Fynbos Ridge Guest House for (1) nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Fynbos Ridge offers five star accommodation in a Private Nature Reserve with spectacular mountain views in the heart of South Africa's Garden Route. You have a choice of either the Cape colonial style Country House or the award winning self-catering cottages. The Country House offers five individually styled bedrooms with full bathrooms, two elegantly furnished lounges with log fires and an alfresco dining area for splendid breakfasts and dinners by arrangement. Our fully equipped self-catering cottages sleep up to five guests and there is a smaller studio/apartment ideal for one couple. Each cottage offers two charming bedrooms, pampering bathrooms, fine kitchen, spacious living area, log fires and a secluded patio with built-in barbecue. Daily servicing. Situated between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, Fynbos Ridge is just a few minutes away from the superb beaches, magnificent forests, immaculate polo grounds and challenging golf courses for which the Garden Route is renowned. Nature lovers will be enchanted with the beautiful fynbos (cape flora) which attracts a wide variety of birds and butterflies. Fynbos Ridge offers a unique holiday experience to those looking for luxury with tranquility but within easy distance of the areas many attractions. We have our own natural swimming pool for those who just want to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. We welcome children over 12 years of age. The Country House is on the same property as Fynbos Ridge Cottages. It is a large Cape Dutch design guest house and has 5 double bedrooms with full en suite bathrooms, a dining room where we will serve breakfast and optional dinners about 3 times a week. Both the formal and informal lounges have fireplaces and there is a very long outdoor patio where guests can enjoy mountain views whilst having their breakfasts and dinners. Two of our double bedrooms have king-size beds and three of our other double bedrooms have 2 x 3Quarter beds which can either be made up separately or together creating large king-size beds whichever is preferred.

Day 3
This morning you have time for on a boat cruise on the Knysna Lagoon or possibly a guided walk in the Featherbed Nature Reserve. From Knysna you continue further east to the Hog Hollow Estate where you spend (2) nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

Hog Hollow Estate
Lush indigenous vegetation and forests framed by majestic mountain ranges on the one side and the Indian Ocean with it's pristine white beaches on the other, make the Garden Route, situated on the East Coast of Southern Africa, one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa. Hog Hollow Country Lodge, a private nature reserve, is situated 18km East of the small coastal town of Plettenberg Bay in the heart of the magnificent area providing guests with an ideal base to explore the Garden Route. Personalised service and friendly hospitality is a Hog Hollow trademark. Owners, Andy and Debbie, believe turning guests into friends is an essential part of the Hog Hollow experience. The main house is where it all happens and, apart from the diningroom, includes three lounge areas; one leading out to the sun drenched pool area, whilst the other offers the privacy of a leafy garden vista, ideal for reading. The third is situated underneath the old Cape Ficus Tree growing through the deck, perfect for spotting birds coming to feed off the fruit in the tree. From the social milieu of the main house to the cool waters of the pool,overlooking the Matjes River Gorge and a prefect spot to soak up the sun whilst sipping a fresh drink or enjoying a light lunch, our bar provides excellent beverages to complement all occasions.

Twelve uniquely individual rooms offer uninterrupted views over the indigenous forests and Tsitsikamma Mountains. These comfortable African-styled rooms, situated in the gardens surrounding the main house, are decorated in earthy colours, naturally woven fabrics, artefacts and tones from north-eastern Africa, and local handcrafted woods. Each room has a private wooden deck, fitted with its own hammock and wooden furniture overlooking the forest and an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. At breakfast, hosts assist our guests in planning their day. There are so many wonderful places to see and things to do in the area that we are able to advise and book activities according to your specific individual needs. Attractions nearby include at least 50 charted and guided walks. The area is part of one of the world's great floral kingdoms with a host of bird-life and wildlife for nature lovers. Horse-riding, Mountain Biking, Canoeing, Windsurfing, Canopy Walk, Scuba Diving, Paragliding, Deep Sea Fishing, Bungi Jumping and Black Water Tubing down the Storms River Gorge are among some of the great outdoor activities the area has to offer. The unique and most exciting feature of this area is the abundance in marine mammals in the bay which is flanked by two marine nature reserves and therefore rich in food for the resident whales and dolphins. Apart from the resident Bryde whale, Indo-Pacific Humpback, Bottlenose and Common Dolphins who feed in the bay all year round, we also enjoy seasonal visits from the Southern Right, Humpback and Killer Whales during their annual migration. During July to September every year, Southern Right Whales migrate to this part of the Indian Ocean to calve. There are organised boat trips all year round to see Brydes whales and dolphins. Huge schools of dolphin surfing the breakers or leaping clear of the blue sea, are a regular sight throughout the year. Boat trips are available through Ocean Blue Adventures from where you have the opportunity to interact with the dolphins in the bay. Ocean Adventures will provide you with fascinating insights into our rich marine heritage. View the beauty of this coastline from a different angle and enjoy the exceptional photographic opportunities available. Special requests for tailor-made trips can be accommodated. African Ramble Air Safaris offer a dedicated whale watching flight and a thirty minute scenic flight along the coast from Plettenberg Bay to the Knysna Heads. Equitrailing specializes in horse trails through pristine indigenous forests and can incorporate biking, canoeing, abseiling and hiking. Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary offers visitors safari's conducted by experienced rangers where you can expect to see many species of monkeys as well as a large variety of forest dwelling birds. After soaking up the splendor of a living forest, you can relax on the sunny deck of the restaurant while enjoying a meal or a cocktail.

Day 4
Today you have the full day to explore this rugged stretch of coastline on foot. Alternatively you may want to visit the nearby Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park or enjoy one of the many other activities of the garden route such as enjoy a boat cruise up the Keurbooms River, pay a visit to Monkeyland or just spend some relaxing in the beautiful setting that you are in.

Day 5
Today you drive further east to one of the surfing Meccas of the world, Jeffereys Bay. Here you check in at the Diaz 15 Guest House for (2) nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 6
Today you have the full day to enjoy the sea & sand in Jeffereys Bay.

Day 7
Today drive the last stretch of the garden route to the Port Elizabeth Airport where you drop off your rented car.
