African Safari FAQ
Which country would you like to visit
The next question should be which country would you prefer to
visit. There are a lot of factors that will influence this decision
such as climate, political stability, currency strength, medical
requirements, infrastructure, landlocked or not, are but a few.
Following is a short breakdown of what the Southern and East African
countries are famous for and have to offer.
SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa is great for family holidays, self drive safaris
and including activities such as golf in your holiday. A good
infrastructure and safe drinking water. South Africa and the independant
kingdoms of Swaziland and Lesotho boast the largest number of
conservation areas in Africa, 30 million acres of South Africa
is designated to conservation. A well developed country with all
the communication- and health services one might require. The
only country that can offer malaria-free big 5 game viewing (only
in the central and Southern areas though). The Kruger National
Park is the most wellknown South African game reserve.
NAMIBIA
Namibia is mostly a desert experience with wide open spaces and
great scenery, excellent for self drive holidays. 15% of Namiba
has been set aside for conservation. A developing country with
most of the communication- and health services one might require.
Etosha National Park is the countries most prominent reserve with
the Etosha Pan (5000sq/km salt pan) providing a vital source of
nourishment for the game.
BOTSWANA
A policy of low numbers of people, high quality experiences has
been the driving force behind the conservation of this country
since it's independence. One pays considerably more to visit here
(currently Africa's strongest currency). However, you get what
you pay for: some reserves are so large and have so few inhabitants
in the area that one might come across animals that have never
seen humans before! The Okavango river delta is world famous for
it's pristine beauty and abundance of bird- and animal live. Infrastructure
is poor off the major routes but adds to the "real Africa"
experience. Botswana is a landlocked country. The Moremi Game
Reserve in the Okavango Delta and the Chobe National Park is Botswana's
most commonly visited reserves, they include flood plains and
lagoons, dry bushveld and mopane woodland.
ZIMBABWE
We are currently not selling safaris to Zimbabwe unless specifically
requested.
ZAMBIA
This is an developing destination with very friendly people to
welcome you to their country. Game viewing is excellent and varied.
The Victoria Waterfalls can be viewed from the town Livingston.
A river based viewing safari is highly recommended here; Elephants
crossing the rivers, hippopotami thrashing about and crocodiles
waiting in hungry anticipation for their prey are all possible
sightings from here. A developing country with some communication-
and health services on offer. Zambia's popular parks such as South
Luangwa have seen considerable improvement in the way of roads
and infrastructure in the pass few years making them more excesable
to the general public.
TANZANIA
Tanzania has devoted one third of the country to conservation.
Africa's highest peak: Kilimanjaro is situated within view of
animals grazing here in the National park - with the Ngorogoro
Crater not too far away. Tanzania consists mostly of wide open
plains spreading east of the Great Rift Valley. The infrastructure
in Tanzania is not as extensive as most Southern African countries
so make sure you use a reputable company to ensure a comfortable
ride. The great Serengeti Game Reserve is found in Tanzania, famous
for its wildebeest migration. Off the coast you will find the
spice island of Zanzibar an excellent destination for a beach
and cultural holiday combination.
KENYA
Probably the best known country for it's safari experiences,
it has 60 seperate officially designated conservation areas. Large
herds of game migrating over hundreds of miles, descendents of
thousands that have done so before over the centuries. Here it
is possible to see it from up close! Hot-air ballooning is popular
and gives you an unforgettable view over the plains and the herds
of wildebeest - The Masai Mara National Reserve and surrounding
areas are famous for all of this. Cost here is a factor though
- rising prices have impacted negatively on the number of safaris
undertaken over the last few years. Mount Kenya is one of the
countries top safari destinations and popoular destination for
climbers who want to climb africas second highest peak - Mt Kenya.
A developing country with some communication- and health services
on offer.
Other possible safari destinations in Africa are: Mozambique,
Malawi, Uganda and Madagascar.
