African Safari FAQ
Size of group
Are you planning a Kenya holiday or a Mauritius travel excursion and not quite sure about the ideal group size for such a vacation? Although the ideal group size is mostly a matter of personal preference, there are a few things that you should bear in mind when inviting friends and family along on an African safari. These include:
Interests differ. Before committing to costly safari plans with family or friends you have to be sure to discuss each person's primary motivation for going on this holiday. While you may be interested in game drives and hiking excursions, your companions may prefer cultural pursuits and curio shopping. By identifying your interests beforehand you can ensure that each person's interests are taken into account when you compile your itinerary.
Logistics. Certain types of safaris can only cater for a small number of people. For instance, Namibia travel agents recommend that holidaymakers who are primarily interested in game viewing should limit their group size to six, as this is the maximum number of people who can have a window seat in a safari vehicle at any given time. If you are willing to take turns at a window seat you are welcome to increase the number of your party, but this is not recommended.
Young children. Although a safari experience can be as riveting for a child as it is for an adult, children do have shorter attention spans and can become quite a handful after a long day of game viewing, while driving over rough terrain. If you plan to take your young children along on your travels it is recommended that you choose your activities with care, so as not to inconvenience other travellers who do not have children. For instance, a cry, shout or a screech from a child during silent, tense game watching moments has the potential to derail a perfect opportunity to see animals interacting with each other in their natural habitat.
There are various other factors that will play a role in determining the ideal group size and demographic. Discuss the matter with our friendly consultants who will be able to advise you during the planning phase of your African safari. Please note that safaris can also be designed for group travel including conferences and incentives.
