Belvidere Manor

The corner stone for Belvidere House was laid amid much pomp in 1848 and the Duthie family had their "first dinner out of New House - good!" in November 1849. It is a prime example of English Georgian architecture in the Eastern Cape colony, and gained its National Monument status in 1995. Built using local materials, the original yellowwood floors and stinkwood and yellowwood staircase are still in evidence. In its time, Belvidere House was a centre of hospitality as well as serving as the local Post Office, indeed a copy of a letter marked with a Belvidere postmark can be seen in the entrance hall.

ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation at Belvidere Manor consists of 30 Cottages, some of which have a view of the Knysna lagoon and some of which have a view of our gardens. Guests are housed in their own private cottage, single or double storey, which consist of 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. Each cottage has a wide verandah, comfortable lounge with fireplace, a fully fitted kitchen, bedrooms en-suite, telephone, television with satellite channels and overhead fans. They are fully serviced.

Garden Classic
Situated in the grounds above the Manor House, a single storey, 2 or 3 bedroomed cottage.

Garden Deluxe
Situated in the grounds above the Manor House, a double storey cottages, offering the main suite upstairs and the second suite with twin beds downstairs.

Garden Superior
Situated in the grounds above the Manor House, a single or double storey, double suite cottage, with an additional sundeck

ACTIVITIES

Being in the centre of the Garden Route, Belvidere offers a secluded base from which to explore the beauty of forests and golden beaches and the towering Knysna Heads. Visit historical Holy Trinity Church, Belvidere, a fine example of 12th century Norman architecture. Take a sundowner boat ride on the lagoon. Enjoy a stroll to Belvidere's Bird Sanctuary. Have a ride on the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe, a steam enthusiast's dream! Visit Featherbed Nature Reserve on the western Heads of Knysna's lagoon. Wander through Knysna where there are many fine art galleries, shops and restaurants.
