There are elephants and their trailing young; numerous species of
graceful antelope; the skyscraping giraffe; even, upon frequent
occasion, the proud, magnificent lion. They are all more preoccupied
with the salt-flavored earth and adjacent water holes than with you,
above. You take in the scene from the broad open terrace over afternoon
tea and scones, the cocktail lounge or, for that matter, the restaurant
as you enjoy a candle-lit dinner with vintage wines. Or you may wish to
relax around the swimming pool during the afternoon. At Salt Lick you
will find large, comfortable rooms and you may look out of your bedroom
window and perhaps spot a baboon, a giraffe or an impala. Salt Lick affords
game viewing not only from on high, but from a specially constructed,
secure, ground-level bunker, from where you may photograph the animals
between the steel bars of the bunker's window. You'll find yourself staying
up late into the night, for the fun part of safari is the friends you
make as well as the animals you spot.
