Notten's Bushcamp
Notten's Bush Camp is part of the Sabi-Sand Game Reserve
which adjoins the south western side of the Kruger National Park in the
Eastern Transvaal Lowveld. The Sabi-Sand Game Reserve was formed in 1950 and
comprises many private game farms covering an area of 56,000 Ha of "Bushveld".
The camp itself is situated under a canopy of indigenous riverine trees e.g.
African Ebony and Marulas (leadwoods). Six chalets accommodate a maximum of
ten guests at a time. "The Nottens' guests do not just visit a game reserve.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation consists of comfortable, rustic chalets and luxury suites with
open plan bedroom, with en-suite bathroom. Two of the chalets have both indoor
and outdoor shower facilities. All windows and sliding doors are fitted with
screens and insect repellent coils are provided. All chalets have hot showers
but no electricity, paraffin lamps are used for lighting. Facilities are
available for the re-charging of video machines, cameras etc.
Fax, email and telephone facilities are also available. All rooms have their
own deck looking out into the bush from which game can be viewed. Meals are a
social event and guests gather either in the reed enclosed boma around a log
fire in winter or in the summerhouse during summer or in the dining room with
a huge blazing fire. The excellent cuisine is enjoyed under the attentive
supervision of Paul and Hilda and their team in an informal and convivial
atmosphere. The menu is varied, vegetarians are catered for as well as lovers
of venison, with many other specialities. Cool off next to the sparkling pool
with refreshments from the fully stocked bar, or relax in the shade of the
Marula trees on the wooden deck overlooking the waterhole.
ACTIVITIES
Early morning and evening game drives in an open Land Rover. Bush walks with
an armed game ranger knowledgeable in all aspects of conservation, ecology and
the environment of the bush.
Birdwatching. All game drives are undertaken in an open 4-wheel drive Land
Rover with an experienced game ranger and Shangaan tracker. The tracker has
an innate and instinctive attunement to the environment of the African bush.
He uses his acute senses of sight and smell to navigate easily and swiftly
through the bush in order to locate game. Night drives begin in time to
experience the spectacular lowveld sunsets. On these one sees the nocturnal
bush creatures as well as other game under spotlight. The tracker is able to
spot the eyes of the animals in the pitch dark night.
