Elephant Back Safaris

Thorntree Lodge (Safari Par Excellence)

Situated on the Zambian bank of the Zambezi River, within the renowned Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park and just 15 kilometres upstream from the spectacular Victoria Falls lies the secluded Thorntree River Lodge.

With 6 twin rooms and 2 honeymoon suites, Thorntree River Lodge offers its guests a unique and personal African experience all year round. Each accommodation unit has its own en-suite facilities and all are beautifully appointed.

The entire complex has been constructed using natural materials with indigenous woods and thatching providing cooling shade and the unmistakable feel of a true safari camp. The Lodge blends naturally into the riverine vegetation and commands superb river views from its main deck and private verandas. Welcoming drinks and excellent cuisine are enjoyed from the centrally situated lounge and dining area. There is also a swimming pool with a water level bar and a thatched lapa in which to simply relax during the heat of the day. An assortment of pre-dinner snacks are prepared on the deck at sun downer time, when guests can enjoy the Zambezi's famous sunsets and perhaps watch the regular procession of elephant as they follow an age old migration route that runs directly in front of the Lodge.

At Thorntree River Lodge, as at all other Safari Par Excellence lodges, clients are served three full meals a day. All food, meat and vegetables are fresh, prepared and served to the highest standards by our fully experienced chefs and waiters.

Whilst at the Lodge, all drinks ranging from cordials and soft drinks to beer and spirits are supplied. Imported red and white wines are served with the three-course dinners.
Thorntree River Lodge's riverside location and its unique position with the National Park allows for a wide choice of activities, including sunset cruises, game-drives, cultural tours, fishing and of course visits to the Falls themselves. The Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park is a sanctuary for white rhino as well as a haven for many other species including giraffe, sable, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and a wide variety of birds.

Comfortable pontoon boats take guest out onto the Zambezi River where you can enjoy and appreciate the unspoiled beauty of this lovely stretch of river. Feel its peace and serenity while you enjoy a drink, cast a line or raise your binoculars to the passing array of animals and birds.

Adventure lovers will also be able to experience white water rafting, river boarding, tandem kayaking and bungee jumping as well as sightseeing flights over the Falls by helicopter, fixed-wing aircraft or micro light. All activities can either be pre-booked or arranged at the Lodge.

There are a variety of ways to access Thorntree River Lodge. Most guests choose to fly into either Livingstone or Victoria Falls International Airport where they are met and transferred to the Lodge by road. Those wishing to self-drive will find the access by road excellent. The Lodge is approximately 15 minutes drive from Livingstone International Airport and about 40 minutes from Victoria Falls Airport assuming no interruptions at the border post on the bridge.

Thorntree River Lodge offers exclusivity in an unspoiled setting envied by many but experienced by few. The lodge is family- friendly (children younger than 12 years are accommodated on request).
