Comprising mountain ranges and semi-arid desert, Namibia travel can often be a difficult and dangerous task. Yet there are some magnificent historical and natural attractions, as well as a variety of activities that combine to ensure enjoyable Namibian holidays.

Namibian safaris are becoming increasingly popular. The Caprivi Strip offers three national parks (the Caprivi Game Park, the Mamili National Park and the Mudumu National Park) with a variety of game, differing ecosystems and various accommodation options. The Etosha National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa, and is home to a vast number of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. In the Hoarusib Valley the very fortunate may catch a glimpse the rare desert-dwelling elephant. These are but a few of the national parks you may encounter during your Namibia travel.

Some of the spectacular sights to be seen during your Namibia travels include the Fish River Canyon, the Quiver Tree forest, the Petrified Forest, and the Epupa Falls. Also making for spectacular viewing is the Skeleton Coast where the dense fog and cold sea breezes that blow inland create an even eerier atmosphere around the many shipwrecks. For the more active (or the young at heart) the Sossusvlei sand dunes provide thrilling sand boarding adventures. Alternatively, watching the sun set on these majestic dunes makes for beautiful, if somewhat daunting viewing.

There is also superior accommodation in some of the finest hotels Namibia has to offer. At the beginning of the 20th century, Germans arrived and settled in Namibia. For this reason many of the buildings that you will see have a German colonial influence. Swakopmund, for example, is a small, attractive German town on the African coast. While the exterior of the buildings may maintain their original old-fashioned look, you can be reassured that they will offer the high-quality service and modern amenities that you could expect anywhere else in the world.

Namibia and Swakopmund are the major towns in Namibia and it is here that you will find many shops specialising in local products. Namibia is renowned for its diamonds and semi-precious stones, which can be used to make stunning jewellery. A variety of curios are available, including dolls made by traditional Herero women and wearing traditional dress; hand-carved wooden objects and figurines; shoes and belts made from Kudu leather; and many locally made garments either for practical use or as keepsakes.

Whether it is a wild safari adventure or a sophisticated, cultural tour that you prefer, Namibia holidays have it all.
