Xugana Island & Tsaro Elephant Lodges

Okavango
The Okavango Delta is a unique oasis at the northern edge of the Kalahari Desert. The Okavango River, carrying rainwater from the Angolan highlands, spills out like a fan, creating a million meandering waterways over an area of some 10 000 square kilometres.

On its own island in the heart of the Okavango, is Xugana Island Lodge. The Lodge accommodates 16 guests in eight twin bedded rooms and thatch mesasa (local word for huts), built on stilts with a view overlooking Xugana lagoon. Each mesasa is en suite with shower, toilet and basin.

Mokoro (traditional dug out canoe) trips poled by local boatmen and discovering the waterways of the Delta in small motorboats are some of the activities offered by the lodge. Also available are wilderness walks on nearby islands with knowledgeable guides as well as fishing and birding.

A mokoro trail is the ultimate Delta experience. Xugana offers a 2 night/3 day fully serviced trail with comfortable tented Accommodation and basic facilities. All meals are taken in the open and activities consist mainly of wilderness walks on nearby islands.

Complementing the waterborne activities of Xugana Island Lodge, Tsaro Elephant Lodge offers twice daily game drives into the Moremi Game Reserve in open safari style vehicles. Excellent game and bird watching as well as photographic opportunities abound.
